In Malaysia, a “cooling-off period” refers to a period of time during which a consumer who has made a purchase through direct sales is allowed to cancel the transaction and receive a full refund, without having to provide any reason. The cooling-off period is a consumer protection measure aimed at giving the consumer an opportunity to reconsider the purchase and make an informed decision.
The cooling-off period for direct sales transactions is 10 (TEN) working days, starting from the date the consumer receives the goods or services, or the date the consumer signs the direct sales agreement, whichever is earlier. During this TEN-day period, the consumer can cancel the transaction by giving written notice to the direct seller and returning the goods. The direct seller must then refund the full purchase price, including any membership fee, relevant taxes and delivery charges, within 30 days of receiving the written notice of cancellation.
